Synergistic Electro-actuve Actuation of Ionic and Conductive Polymer |

Here, we performed a simple modification of commercial Nafion membrane by in-situ oxidative polymerization of polypyrrole (PPy) for ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) actuator. The prepared membrane was characterized by SEM, EDS, 2-probe impedence and ATR-IR spectroscopy. The experimental results showed that the PPY-combined Nafion IPMC has enhanced electro-active performance, especially in displacement and response rate, compared to commercial Nafion-based IPMC. We demonstrated that the synthesized PPY bound to the sulfonate groups of Nafion is actuated by doping-undoping process of hydrated cations, which lead to synergistic deformation of the prepared actuator. |
