1,6-Hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) was grafted onto propylene substrates in the presence of MMI(N-Methyl Maleimide) and isopropylthioxantone (ITX), and then polyurethane acrylate formulations were coated onto the surface modificated PP substrates, using UV irradiation. The amount grafted and the grafting efficiency of the polymerizations were determined gravimetrically. The effects of the MMI and ITX concentration and the UV intensity on the grafting efficiency of the photografting polymerization were characterized in detail using contact angle measurements, ATR, and SEM. The results showed that the amount of HDDA grafted onto the PP substrates increased with increasing MMI concentration and UV intensity, and that the addition of a small amount of ITX markedly enhanced the grafting efficiency. |
