Synthesis and photopolymerization of novel self-assembled discotic liquid crystals |

Polymerizable liquid crystals (LCs) have attracted much attention due to their potential applications as nanostructured polymers, optically anisotropic films, and microscopic patterning materials. The photopolymerization of the LC phase under UV produces the stable macromolecules with a long-range order. The objective of this study is to prepare the polymerizable discotic liquid crystal (DLC) by hydrogen bonding and examine its photopolymerization in the LC state. Novel polymerizable DLC has been prepared through hydrogen bonding between a phenolic core and a pyridine derivative containing a diacetylenic group and acryloyl groups. Photopolymerization of DLC monomer in the LC state provided a well-ordered polymer. |
