Block polymers self-assembly offers a fascinating route for generation of nanoporous polymers with precise control over structure, pore size, and functionality. By etching a minority block, well-defined nanoporous polymer can be readily derived from its block polymer precursor retaining the microphase separated structure. In this talk, I will focus on incorporation of reactive functionality into the majority block of the block polymer precursor by controlled radical copolymerization of functional monomers towards robust crosslinked nanoporous polymers. Different strategies for crosslinking of the block polymer precursor such as postpolymerization modification with multifunctional reactants and in situ crosslinking by copolymerization of a crosslinker will be discussed. Particularly, I will introduce simultaneous block polymerization with in situ crosslinking as a means of preparing a crosslinked and nanostructured block polymer from a mixture of monomers all in one single step. |
