Particle size effects of aminated polyacrylonitrile spheres on electrorheological performances of their colloidal suspensions |
초록 |
Electrorheological (ER) fluid has been one of the most promising candidates as a smart material for various industrial utilizations because of the fast response time and controllable shear viscosity. the ER colloidal suspensions consist of electrically polarizable particles (ER particles) and a nonconducting carrier fluid as dispersion phase and host fluids, respectively. The ER particle size adjustment is one of dominant parameters to enhance the ER effects of suspensions. It is generally accepted that the nano-size effect could be expected to enhance the performances of the electroactive smart fluids owing to fast response-time for the applied electric field and high specific-surface area strengthening particle-particle interaction. However, it was demonstrated that tens of micron-sized particle dispersed suspensions showed higher electrorheological performances than the nanometer-sized particle owing to electrical properties, Brownian motion and electrostatic force in this study. |
