제목 Direct Gold Metallization on Monodispersed Polystyrene Beads
초록 Micro-sized monodisperse polymer beads have been applied in the biomedical filed, microelectronics, phtonics, etc. Especially, as the development of Information Technology(IT) industries and their electronic device manufacturing technology have been accelerated recently, the request for electronic devices with small size and highly performance has been made by using flip chip technology for finer pitch, higher package density, reduced package size and improved lead-free compatibility.
In this study, micro-sized polystyrene beads were successfully perpared via dispersion polymerization with beads size of 300nm~10 um by controlling initiator, solvent and temperature. The synthesized beads were treated by chlorosulfonic acid to introduce sulfonic acid groups on the surface the beads. Subsequently, a cationic gold(III) ligand was synthesized and used for the surface metallization. Gold was coated on the polysyrene surface by the electroless plating process. Gold-coated monodisperse polystyrene was examined by particle size analyzer, SEM, XRD, FT-IR, AFM and the thermal analyzer.
