We synthesized terpyridine (tpy) and Ru(tpy)2 containing self-assembled polymer films on ITO and glass substrates, and investigated their photocurrent efficiency. We used Fe(II), Zn(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) metals which can coordinate with the tpy ligand to synthesize self-assembled polymer films. Especially using Cu(II), we found the film growth rate was fastest due to the higher metal-ligand binding energy which was confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy. In the photocurrent experiment, self-assembled polymer films with Zn(II) exhibited the highest efficiency. We confirmed with potential-step chronoamperometry that this high efficiency is due to the fast electron hopping rate among terpyridine-metal complexes. |
