제목 Cyanoacetic Acid Anchoring Group Tethered Thiophene for Well-Matched LUMO Level in Ru(II)-Terpyridine Dye Sensitized Solar Cells
초록 A strong electron donating thiophene moiety tethered between pyridyl and cyanoacetic acid group of the terpyridine ligand based Ru sensitizers, referred as SY-01 and SY-02 with well-matched LUMO level as that of the black dye (N749) have been synthesized. The excited-state oxidation potentials E°ox* ranging from -0.98 to -0.96 V as revealed from the electrochemical studies, are sufficiently more negative than the conduction band edge of the TiO2 electrode (ca. -0.5 V) facilitating the effective electron injection into TiO2 from excited state of the dyes. The increased conjugation conferred to the SY-01 and SY-02 dyes through π-expansion by tethering of the ED thiophene moiety increases both their light-harvesting and photovoltaic energy conversion capability in comparison with N3 and N749 dyes. The increased VOC values for SY-01 and SY-02 compared with that of N749 are well consistent with long life times measured from the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
