Much research efforts have been devoted in developing various shapes of stimuli-responsive hydrogels such as beads, sheets, or microfibers for potential applications. In this work, we fabricated hydrogel microfibers of controlled sizes and shape with N-isopropylacrylamide, typical temperature-responsive polymer, using microcapillary channels by alginate templating method and photo-polymerization. In this method, hydrogel microfibers can be functionalized easily with fluorescent monomer and iron oxide nanoparticles for various applications. Iron oxide nanoparticles show photothermal effect which means they convert photo energy of the light to thermal energy, providing efficient mean to trigger thermal responsive hydrogel by light irradiation. |
