Botryococcus braunii synthesizes a large amount of long-chain unsaturated hydrocarbons and fatty acids ranging from 15 to 75% of dried biomass. In this work, we clarify the characteristics of lipids extracted by B. braunii LB 572. The mixture of hydrocarbons and lipids was extracted from B. braunii LB 572 with various solvents and analyzed by gas chromatography. The results indicated that melting point, calorific value, and elemental composition were 27 ~ 33℃, 43 MJ/kg, and (CH2.10O0.04)n, respectively. Since the calorific value of lipids from B. braunii LB572 is higher than general biodiesel and the reasonable melting point, the lipids from B. braunii LB 572 could have a potential as a renewable source of fuels. |
