In the field of polymer synthesis, the living anionic polymerization of styrene derivatives containing heterocyclic groups is one of the major challenges because the functional groups can be easily attacked by highly reactive anionic species such as anionic initiators and propagating chain-end carbanions. Accordingly, our group investigated anionic polymerization behaviors of styrene derivatives containing carbazole (Polymer 2001, 42, 7611), pyridine (Macromolecules 2007, 40, 8553), and triphenylamine (Macromolecules 2010, 43, 8400) moieties, and reported that the living anionic polymerizations of these monomers can be achieved by controlling polymerization conditions (temperature, reaction time, additive, and initiator) or introducing protecting group. In this presentation, we demonstrate the anionic polymerization behaviors of styrene derivatives containing heterocyclic groups in detail. |
