The combustion of fossil fuels is the major sources of the increase of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere causing the global warming. Therefore, the reduction of CO2 to useful compounds such as methanol, formic acid, and other hydrocarbons has become an important topic in electrochemistry. Electrochemical conversion of CO2 provides a means of storing renewable electricity in a convenient and high energy-density form. The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2R) to formate appears to have the best chance for the practical development of industrial scale processes, because formate can be obtained with high selectivity and high current density in aqueous electrolyte. In the present work, mass transfer enhanced CO2R into formate is studied using tin as cathode catalyst. |
