Combining two materials to give novel hybrid nanomateials with enhanced properties is an attractive challenge. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are known to possess excellent mechanical, electrical, thermal and magnetic properties, but difficult to be dispersed into a various matrices. Thus, CNTs have been functionalized to give better affinity to the corresponding matrix, but scarified their outstanding properties such as thermal and electrical conductivities. To minimize or enhance the properties, the hybridization of electrically conductive polymers and CNTs could be worthwhile for the generation of more promising materials. MWNTs were functionalized with 4-aminobenzoic acid in a mild polyphosphoric acid/phosphorous pentoxide medium. And then, in-situ chemical oxidation polymerization between pyrrole and AF-MWNT was conducted in ammonium persulfate (APS)/1M HCl to afford PPy-g-MWNT. As a result, resultants are expected to display enhanced properties compared to each individual components. |
