To overcome drawbacks of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) such as brittleness and low heat resistance, PLLA was modified by blending PLLA resin with three types of PLA/clay nanocomposites prepared from enantiomeric isomers of lactide monomer such as L-lactide, D-lactide and D,L-lactide. In this study, we focused on the properties of three types of PLA/clay nanocomposites. Each PLA/clay nanocomposites were prepared by in-situ ring-opening polymerization of each lactide monomer with poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMG) based organoclay having hydroxyl end groups in the Brabender mixer. The molecular weights, morphologies, silicate layer structures and thermal properties of PLA/clay nanocomposites were investigated by GPC, TEM, XRD, DSC and TGA. |
