Synthesis and characterization of red phosphorescent iridium complexes fororganic light emitting diode applications |

Up to date, highly efficient pure red emitting complexes are still scarce because their luminescent quantum yields tend to be intrinsically low, which makes them unsuitable for practical usage. This is in accordance with the energy gap law in which the luminescence quantum yield tends to decrease with an increase in the emission peak wavelength. Herein, a new series of iridium complexes were synthesized and characterized a saturated red light emission in organic light emitting diodes. The electroluminescence (EL) spectra exhibited the characteristic spectrum of (dpq)2Irprz and (dpq)2IrMeprz with its maximum at 640 nm and CIE (Commission International de L’Eclairage) coordinate of (0.69, 0.29). A red organic light emitting diodes based on ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TCTA:TPBI:Ir complex/cathode exhibit a maximum external quantum efficiency of 7.32 % and luminance efficiency of 2.51 cd/A. |
