Implantable silicone medical devices exhibit a fibrous encapsulation by a foreign body response in the implanted body, which results in loss of function or side effects to patients. To suppress the fibrosis, surface modification of breast implants can be applied, one of which is nanopatterned on the implant surface. However, to achieve nanopatterned silicone implants, it is necessary to make a nano-sized mold, which is expensive to manufacture a nano-sized mold. To overcome these shortcomings, nanopatterned breast implants were fabricated using an easy-to-use electrospinning technique and modified imprinting techniques. Also, it has the advantage of non-toxicity by only modifying the physical surface of the breast implant. In addition, nanopatterned breast implants can inhibit the adhesion and activation of fibroblasts and macrophage cells, resulting in the inhibition of fibrosis. |
