We demonstrate improved performance of n-channel organic filed-effect transistors (OFETs) by introducing a titanium sub-oxide (TiOx) electron injection layer between an active layer and metal electrodes. In this devices, an n-type fullerene derivative, [6, 6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) is used as the active layer. The formation of the interfacial dipole in the TiOx layer reduces contact resistance between the active layer and metal electrodes, thereby facilitating the electron injection from the electrode to the PC61BM layer. Moreover, the TiOx layer can protect the active layer from penetration of oxygen and moisture. Therefore, the lifetime of the device is significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the active layer and contact electrodes are fabricated by inkjet printing method. |
