Stability improvement of polyelectrolyte multilayer film using poly(acrylic acid-co-glycidyl methacrylate) copolymer |

The fabrication technology of polyelectrolyte multilayer(PEM) thin films has received much attention recently as its simple and versatile characteristic. In this work, we describe a new stabilized method of PEM by adding 3~15% glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) into polyacrylic acid(PAA) to include cross-linking site. Pre-cleaned poly(methyl methacrylate), polycarbonate as substrate and 20mM poly (allylamine hydrochloride) and copolymers of acrylic acid as dipping solutions were used. Thin film of PEM was treated with KOH solution of pH 10 at 30oC for 10 min. Furthermore, the resulting thin films were annealed at 80oC for 24 hours to complete the chemical fixation. FTIR spectrum showed the chemical cross-linking reaction between epoxy and amine. The surface property of the polyelectrolyte films was changed by chemical modification. The chemically cross-linked polyelectrolyte multilayer film was stable in large pH range. Possible applications such as AR coating will be discussed. |
