Energy conversion and storage systems have become an important technology, With increasing demands for use of renewable energy sources. Recently, considerable interest has been focused on the development of redox flow batteries because they could offer several advantageous characteristics of large capacity, quick response, and long cycle life. In the redox flow batteries, energy can be chemically stored by redox reactions between two liquid electrolytes. In particular, VRFB with four different oxidation states of vanadium ions has been regarded as one of the highly possible redox flow systems due to its high cell voltage and simplicity. However, both recovery and recycling are important because the electrolyte has more than 30 percent of the total manufacture cost of VRFB system. In this work, we study preparation of vanadyl sulfate with vanadium that is recovered from waste VRFB electrolyte. |
