Super cationic nanofibrous mesh for surface modification |

Electrospun nanofibers offer the opportunity to enhance cell attachment because their intrinsic structures are similar to those of the extracellular matrix. However, poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) nanofiber has limitations of cellular adhesion due to their high hydrophobicity. Polyethylenimine(PEI) was conjugated to PCL to prepare highly charged surfaces of primary amine groups. PCL-PEI diblock copolymers were synthesized by conjugating PEI to the terminal hydroxyl groups of PCL. PCL was acrylated with acryloyl chloride in the presence of triethlyamine in benzene. After 12h, acrylated PCL in DCM were added to PEI by a drop-by-drop manner. PCL-PEI block copolymer was characterized by 1H-NMR and the number of primary amine was quantified by fluorescamine assay. The diblock copolymer was electrospun to nanofiber. The cationic density on the surface was adjustable by attaching non-ionic and hydrophilic molecules on the surface of the nanofiber. |
