In-vitro and In-vivo Assessment of polycaprolactone based coating on magnesium alloys for biomedical applications |
초록 |
The paper presents the in-vitro and in-vivo studies of polycaprolactone based coatings on biodegradable magnesium alloy for biomedical applications. The coatings consist of MgF2 underlayer while polycaprolactone (PCL) as outer layer by immersion and dip coating technique respectively. The surface morphology, phase, in vitro and invivo corrosion and biocompatibility studies were carried out for dual layer coatings and compared with uncoated samples. The results revealed that by PCL coating along with ceramic layer exhibited superior resistance to corrosion and improved biocompatibility than the uncoated and single conversion layer coated samples. Hydrogen evolution measurements and pH change over a two weeks indicated longer range corrosion protection in comparison to the uncoated substrates. The dual coatings showed improved biocompatibility and cell proliferation with respect to uncoated ones utilizing pre-osteoblast MC3T3 cells. These organic based dual coatings on magnesium implants show huge potential for biomedical applications. Preliminary invivo studies using rabbit model for 2 weeks showed the dual MgF2/PCL coating reduced the degradation rate of ZK60 Mg alloy and exhibited good biocompatibility. |
