We report highly sensitive organic photodiode by introducing a buffer layer between the anode and the semiconductor layer. The effects of buffer layers consisting of a SAM, PEDOT:PSS, and pentacene on the morphology and crystallinity of the upper-deposited semiconductor layer are carefully analyzed combined with trap analyses. The active layer was found to be nearly homogeneous and to have low crystallinity when the SAM or PEDOT:PSS layers were present, whereas a highly crystalline morphology was found in the presence of the pentacene layer. When exposed to light pulses, the photocurrent are highest for the PEDOT:PSS-based photodiode, however the noise current are lowest for the pentacene-based photodiode. More importantly, the pentacene-based photodiode exhibits a more dynamic response to high frequency light pulses than the other photodiodes and this dynamic response is retained even under a light intensity of a few nW/cm2. |
