Polyester grafted poly(p-phenyleneethynylene)s (PET-g-PPEs) were synthesized utilizing acetylene gas in a Pd-catalyzed process, and their optical properties were examined with the length of grafted side-chain. Nanostructured fiber was fabricated by electrospinning, and large surface area could be uniformly covered by this method. It was found that side chain length, concentration, and solvent polarity determined the resulting morphology. When, especially, electrospun into liquid nitrogen, unique nanoporous structure emerged. Furthermore, PET side-chain was encapsulated in the presence of cyclodextrin. Upon the formation of inclusion complex, crystalline morphology becomes completely different. Optical property and melting and crystallization behaviors were investigated by various characterization techniques, including photoluminescence, differential scanning colorimeter, polarized optical microscope, and laser scanning confocal microscope. |
