It is important to incorporate the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) at the proper locations of polymeric matrix according to the projected use of the nanocomposites. The uniform dispersion of CNTs in polymeric matrices enhances the mechanical properties and thermal stability of the polymer/CNT nanocomposites. On the other hand, polymeric nanocomposites coated with CNTs on their surface exhibit superior electrical conductivity, because the CNTs can readily construct a network of electrical pathways on the surface. In this study, location-selective polymer/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite microspheres were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization. The morphology of the composites was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, and the experimental results showed that the MWCNTs were present both in the interior and on the surface of the microspheres. |
