Catechol-grafted dextran (dextran-g-ct) is synthesized as an anti-fouling coating material for inorganic implant materials. Dextran is chemically conjugated with dopamines, and the dextran-g-ct is used to coat titanium dioxide through the strong adhesive capability of catechols. The anti-fouling properties of dextran-g-ct are tested from the adsorption of serum proteins and cell adhesion on dextran-coated titanium dioxide, showing excellent protein and cell resistance of the dextran-coated surface. This study suggests that the dextran-g-ct can be used as an anti-fouling coating material stable in aqueous solutions for various implant materials. This study was supported by a grant of the Korea Health Technology R&D Project, Ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea (A111552). |
