Using derivatives of Krebs cycle acids, new biodegradable polyesters were synthesized and characterized. Poly(1,2-propanediol succinate) was prepared by the polycondensation of 1,2-propanediol with succinic anhydride. And poly(1,3-propanediol succinate) was prepared by the polycondensation of 1,3-propanediol with succinic anhydride. The monomers and polymers were identified by FT-IR spectrophotometry and 13C-NMR spectrometry. The weight average molecular weights were 8,900 in poly(1,2-propnaediol succinate) and 8,600 in poly(1,3-propanediol succinate), respectively. The glass transition temperatures of the polymers were 54.0℃ in poly(1,2-propanediol succinate) and 65.2℃ in poly(1,3-propanediol succinate), respectively. The polymers were thermostable in the range of 20℃ to 100℃. The degradation behaviors of polyesters were studied in the basic condition and in the bacteria that secrete extracelluar enzyme using total organic carbon concentration(TOC) analyzer and optical microscopy. The TOC values of the polymers in the neutral condition were 2038~5375ppm in the case of poly(1,2-propanediol succinate) and 646~3760ppm in the case of poly(1,3-propanediol succinate). The TOC values of the polymers in the bacteria were 2071~4351ppm in the case of poly(1,2-propanediol succinate) and 1802~3360ppm in the case of poly(1,3-propanediol succinate), respectively. |
