Carbon foams derived from a new type of phenolic resin, namely lignin, were successfully synthesized with an organic template method by using poly(methyl methacrylate) as a foaming agent. The influence of lignin ratio on carbon structure and physical properties of the foams was studied. All resulting carbon foams exhibited a uniform macropores. The structure of carbon foams substituting resorcinol by lignin was shown a couple of broad XRD peaks (23, 43 o), which revealed the carbon structure was amorphous and typical carbon foams. TG and DTG thermograms exhibited that the carbon foam synthesized by 40% lignin having a large number of ether linkages showed the most thermally stable nature. Also, lignin improved the physical properties of the carbon foams such as compressive stress and electrical conductivity. |
