Radical Interconversion of •OH ↔ SO4•- on Bimetallic Oxo-Spinels for Oxidizing Aqueous Organic Pollutants |

Radical transfer of •OH → SO4•- on bimetallic oxides is recently unveiled and used to decompose aqueous organic pollutants with the use of supported SO4•- species. The core in improving •OH → SO4•- efficiency is to accelerate •OH desorption stage which is the rate-determining step of overall •OH → SO4•- route and to facilitate the collisions between •OH and SO4•- precursors. Herein, bimetallic oxides serve to afford Lewis acidic metals and SO4•- precursors. SO42--functionalized MnXFe3-xO4 compounds are used as model architectures to tailor the Lewis acidities of the Fe/Mn species and the productivities of the supported SO4•- species. This presentation also compares the activities of bimetallic oxides in expediting •OH → SO4•- route via kinetic assessments. |
