Chemo-photodynamic therapy has received rapidly growing interests as one of the promising cancer treatment. By using chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT) together, it can have many advantages for cancer treatment, such as reducing dose of drug and having synergetic effect on apoptosis of tumor cell. Herein, we developed an nanoparticle, cisplatin-conjugated BODIPY, which can work as both nanocarrier and photosensitizer. The modified BODIPY, as photosensitizer, generate significant amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by photoexcitation using 808 nm near-infrared. The ROS, produced by PDT, combines to have enhanced effect on cancer treatments with the anticancer drug, cisplatin. As the result, particle shows the efficient cellular uptake, and the cisplatin was released under intracellular condition when exposed to 808nm near infrared light. Therefore, the modified BODIPY delivery system has a potential to offer the enhanced effects for cancer treatment. |
