제목 Influence of Residual Alkyne Groups on Ring-Opening Metathesis Ploymerization after Copper(I)-Catalyzed Alkyne-Azide Cylcoaddition Click Reaction
초록 Bottlebrush polymers (BBPs) consist of a linear backbone and grafted side-chains. The high branch-to-backbone ratio in these systems causes BBPs to adopt different conformational behavior compared to linear polymers, making them a topic of interest. The most widely used synthetic method for BBPs is the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of macromonomers. Typically, macromonomers are clicked to a norbornene moiety via Cu-catalyzed alkyne-azide cylcoaddition (CuAAC) click reaction. We observed that ROMP was disrupted by residual norbornene (NB)-alkyne from the CuAAC. A very small amount of NB-alkyne, which is not removed by precipitation, has a detrimental effect on ROMP conversion. We observed that the conversion dramatically increased when NB-alkyne was removed through an additional purification process and have identified changes in ROMP conversion depending on the amount of residual NB-alkyne through two types of macromonomers, NB-polystyrene and NB-poly(butyl acrylate).
