Cellulose is the most common organic compound on Earth and forms about 33 percent of all plant matter. Cellulose is soluble only in a few solvent such as cupriethylenediamine (CED), cadmiumethylenediamine (Cadoxen), lithium chloride / dimethylformamide and N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO). NMMO monohydrate was used in this study to dissolve cellulose because it produces little byproduct and its LD50 is much higher than other solvents. However, cellulose electrospinning with solvent, NMMO monohydrate, has some barriers such as high viscosity and low volatility. To overcome these problems, we utilized some heat device and coagulation methods. According to the coagulation method in the collector, the morphology of electrospun cellulose changed from flat-like to cylindrical fiber. In this study, we optimized the variables of electrospinning processing to get nano-size fibers of cellulose and investigated the effects of processing variables on the morphology of electrospun cellulose. |
