Bacterial cellulose (BC), cellulosic nanofibers produced by bacteria, has extraordinary potential as functional composite materials. It has a nano scale three-dimensional network structure and micro scale which binds together by inter- and intra-fibril hydrogen bonds. For this unique structure, BC shows a superior properties such as high crystalinity, fine network, high water holding capacity, large surface area, elasticity, high mechanical strength, porosity and thermal stability. Such properties make BC a promising material for high performance hybrid materials. In this presentation, Our groups fabricated BC nanocomposites using carbon nanotubes, magnetite nanoparticles, and gold nanoparticles will be introduced. These functional nanocomposites can be applicable for conductive films, electromagnetic materials and substrates of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). |
