Poly(butylene succinate) is a aliphatic thermoplastic polyester, which is a promising polymer for degradable plastic and biomaterials. However, properties of PBS, such as softness, gas permeability and melt viscosity, are often not sufficient for various end–use applications. Polymer/inorganic nanocomposites are one of the methods for improving these problems. Strong adhesion between inorganic particles and polymer play a key role for the compatibility and dispersibility of polymer/inorganic nanocomposites. This strong interfacial adhesion can be induced by chemical bonding, such as urethane bonding, between inorganic material and organic matrices. Hexamethylene diisocyanate was used as surface modifier of hydrophilic silica. PBS nanocomposites filled with silica grafted with PBS was prepared by in-situ polymerization. Rheological properties were investigated to study the particle-matrix interaction and particle-particle interaction depending on the surface energy difference. |
