Siemens is an industry leader in the field of digitalisation, having been instrumental in the original German Industrie 4.0 initiative. The company sees the ability to incorporate deep process knowledge in the form of first-principles predictive models that are closely integrated within the automation system as key to the next wave of digitalisation of operations in the process industries, and a major step forward for operation of large-scale process plants. The economics of such digital twin applications benefit significantly from re-using models that evolve over the process lifecycle in an Integrated Engineering approach, incorporating knowledge and delivering value at every stage. This presentation describes what the approach means in practice, and the ways in which the company is taking the new applications to market as part of its digital transformation strategy. |
