To use water-responsive hydrogels in biomedical devices and soft robotics, hydrogels with high response speed and good mechanical properties are needed. In this study, a method for producing a 1D hydrogel with water-responsive deformations was developed. A hydrogel fiber with an interpenetrating polymer network. The stretched and dried 1D hydrogel exhibited good mechanical properties, controllable and a high degree of deformations. Based on 1D hydrogels, soft actuators which can be bent or can lift a weight when exposed to water, and a chemical sensing platform that can detect ethanol were developed. |
