Solid polymer electrolytes based on poly(styrene-b-ethylene oxide) (PS-b-PEO) have intensively been investigated to improve the stability of lithium ion battery. Given that the PS-b-PEO block copolymers can be self-assembled into various nanoscale morphologies, intimately linked to their ion transport properties, more researches have been focused on the variation of block composition and molecular weight of PS-b-PEO block copolymers. In this study, we report the synthesis of polystyrene-b-[poly(ethylene oxide)]3 (PS-b-PEO3) miktoarm star copolymers by atom transfer radical polymerization to investigate the morphology-transport relationship. This is motivated by the fact that miktoarm star block copolymers can have wide gyroid phases, which have been considered to be ideal morphology of solid polymer electrolytes. Morphological transitions of PS-b-PEO3 miktoarm star block copolymers with the addition of lithium salts were also examined. |
