Water oxidation is currently considered a major bottleneck in the practical development of solar fuels; thus, intensive efforts have been made to under-stand and achieve efficient water oxidation under visible irradiation using earth-abundant materials. Herein, we tested Al2O3/WO3 transparent electrodes from both a macroscopic and microscopic perspective. Laser flash photolysis was used to directly monitor the generation and recombination of charge carriers, both under open-circuit (OCP) and biased conditions. Through the combination of both types of measurements, we can gain further insight on the charge transfer mechanism for water photooxidation. |
