Artificial helical polymers have been of great significance in various potential fields such as optical switches, liquid crystals, stimuli-responsive nanocarriers and biomimetics. Since polyisocyanates were found to adopt dynamic helical conformations, they have become the most studied helical polymers. However, initial studies on these polymers have not been qualitative, because the classical polymerizations could not control the molecular properties. Since we pioneered the advanced anionic polymerizations, polyisocyanates have truly possessed living properties such as quantitative yield, predictable MW and narrow MWD. Our small findings have rapidly given rise to definition of novel helical and morphological natures of polyisocyanates through chirality and amphiphilicity researches We believe that our past, present and future steps can contribute to the utility of polyisocyanates into biological applications. For these goals, new material design and synthesis are now in progress. |
