Multi-objective optimization of a hydrogen liquefaction process integrated with LNG system |

The necessity of liquid hydrogen has emerged because of high energy density and large amount of storage capacity compared to the gaseous one. The problem is that the energy required for the cryogenic process is significant. To reduce the energy demand, The LNG cooling was added, as well as the nitrogen refrigerant, to the hydrogen liquefaction process. However, the hydrogen production from steam methane reforming via LNG emits carbon dioxide. That is why the research is needed to consider both energy and CO2 emission. To attain the goal of minimizing energy and CO2 emission, the single and multiobjective optimization are performed, as well as economic analysis for the extensive interpretation. The results indicate that the CO2 emission decreases by 38% at the expense of the total investment cost increasing by 45% and the specific energy consumption increasing from 10.76 to 11.13 kWh/kg-LH2 compared to the base case. |
