TiO2 nanoparitcles are known to produce reactive oxygen specie (ROS) in the presence of ultrasound. In this work we have designed TiO2 nanocomposite coated with dopamine and conjugated to carboxyl methyl dextran (CMC). The prepare nanoparticles were characterized by nmr and ftir, which confirms the presence of dopamine and successful conjugation with CMC through afmide bond. The prepared nanoparticles have narrow size distribution with average diameter of 200 nm and exhibits high colloidal stability when compared with uncoated nanoparticles. ROS generated by the TiO2 nanoparticles when insonicated by ultrasound, was confirmed using p- nitroso-N,N′-dimethylaniline, in presence of histidine. The cytotoxicity assay of TiO2 nanoparticles showed no serious toxicity, but when insonicated with ultrasound the nanoparticles were cytotoxic to cancer cells. All these results suggest that TiO2 nanoparticles can be a potential candidate for sonodynamic therapy in curing cancer. |
