In order to improve the hydrophilicity and antibacterial activity, aminated polyethersulfone membrane which is grafted with graphene oxide was produced. Compared to polyethersulfone(PES), aminated polyethersulfone(PES-NH2) is more hydrophilic, and it was synthesized from nitration and nitro-reduction of PES. Graphene oxide(GO) which has greater antibacterial activity and hydrophilicity was grafted on the membrane surface of PES-NH2. Through two steps, GO functionalized with acyl chloride(GO-COCl) was produced to graft GO on the membrane of PES-NH2. The formation of PES-NH2, GO-COCl and reactions between PES-NH2 and GO-COCl were confirmed by FT-IR, XPS, TGA, and FE-SEM. As a result, PES/PES-NH2 membrane grafted with graphene oxide (containing 20 wt% PES-NH2) exhibited significant antibacterial activity due to GO on the surface of its membrane. Moreover, the membrane displayed high water flux and improved solute rejection. |
