제목 Synthesis and characterization of 3-pentadecylphenol (PDP) derivative as functionalization agent of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) which is reinforcement for polypropylene composites
초록 Cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) is the product of acid assisted hydrolysis of cellulose. During the hydrolysis process, the amorphous parts of cellulose are removed, and the crystalline parts are left. There are various functional groups on the surface of remaining crystalline part, but the most abundant group is hydroxyl group. 3-Pentadecylphenol (PDP) which is a reduced form of cardanol has single phenol group. To change the hydrophilic surface property of CNC, the surface was functionalized with derivative of PDP which was reacted with succinic anhydride. The derivative of PDP (PDPBA) was analyzed with NMR. The functionalization of CNC was conducted by acid catalyzed esterification between CNC and PDPBA. The functionalization was successful and confirmed by EA, FT-IR and TGA. In the future work, PP composites containing functionalized and pristine CNC are going to be fabricated to investigate the effect of functionalization on the mechanical and thermal properties of PP composites.
