Clostridium carboxidivorans can produce value-added metabolites such as ethanol, butanol, and butyrate under heterotrophic and autotrophic conditions. Under heterotrophic condition, C. carboxidivorans produces short-chain metabolites with fast growth rate. While C. carboxidivorans shows slower growth under autotrophic condition, medium-chain metabolites are produced via carbon elongation pathway. We expected higher growth rates and alcohol productivities under mixotrophic condition due to the synergy effect of glycolysis and Wood-Ljungdahl. Under the mixotrophic condition, carbon yield reached over 93% when CO was supplied, compared to the 58.43% carbon yield when only Ar was supplied. The portion of medium-chain products such as butanol, butyrate, hexanol and hexanoate increased by over 14% under CO2 supplied condition. In the H2 supplied condition, not only the concentration of medium-chain products but also the concentration of ethanol increased.
