Decrosslinking reaction of crosslinked polyolefin by using sub- and supercritical fluids |

The recycling of crosslinked polyolefin (XLPO) by decrosslinking reaction was studied. Experimentswere executed under sub- and supercritical condition with change of factors such as pressure, solvents, weight ratio of solvent to XLPO and heat sources to determine the optimum condition for continuous system. This reaction was achieved in the sub- and supercritical fluids, especially as for methanol, with little degradation of back-bone chain, and ethanol was also considered as a good solvent because the comparable result methanol was shown and it was non toxic unlike methanol. Pressure changemadeno significant difference under supercritical condition while the conversion was a little bit decreased under subcritical condition. This reaction could proceed under even small amount of solvent such as the weight ratio of 1:1. Upon using salt bath as a heat source, taking time to reach the reaction temperature was much shorter than heating jacket and uniform temperature distribution could be expected by agitation. Decrosslinking rate of XLPP was much faster than the one of XLPE. It was considered that more branches on XLPP could make more tertiary carbon radicals than XLPE, and that made difference between XLPP and XLPE. |
