This study investigated the effect of ultrasound irradiation on the blend of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and bisphenol A polycarbonate(PC). High intensity ultrasonic waves was observed that if polymer melt is subjected to irradiation of high intensity ultrasonic wave, main chain scission of polymer occurs and consequently the molecular weight is decreased. Measurement of the tensile properties showed increased tensile stress to break as well as enhanced Young’s modulus when the blends were properly irradiated. In this study, we intended to apply this system to extrusion system. On this twin screw extruder, the ultrasonic system also was installed, and we checked the effect of ultrasound during ultrasonic mixing process. The rheological and thermal properties of products were measured by ARES, TGA, DSC, and so on. And mechanical properties were measured by I-zod impact machine and DMA. |
