The synthesis and characterization of a series of half-metallocene titanium complexes containing both Cp* and aryl-substituted aryloxy ligand, Cp*Ti(OPhR)nCl3-n, have been investigated. Interestingly, the results showed that, when polymerization was started at 140 ℃, Cp*Ti(OPhPh)nCl3-n showed much higher catalytic activities than that of Cp*Ti(OPhR)nCl3-n (R= Me, iPr, tBu) for the polymerization of ethylene. Interestingly, bis-aryloxy substituted catalyst precursor exhibited almost comparable catalytic activities in comparison with Dow CGC catalyst when activated with borate co-catalyst. The results clearly show that the polymerization behavior is very sensitive to the ancillary ligand of the half-sandwich complexes; in particular, a single ortho-phenyl group on the aryloxide and secondary ligand plays key role in catalytic efficiency. |
