In this study, citric acid and tannic acid, which are components of edible foods, were carbonized to make a material having planar morphology. And this material was functionalized with cardanol, which is an extract of cashew nut shell, and it was used as a filler for polypropylene composites. Tests and analyzes were carried out to examine the structure of filler and to measure the mechanical properties of the composites. Polypropylene composites using this filler have resulted in improved mechanical properties even at low filler content. Through this study, it has been shown that carbonization of organic materials at high temperature can result in the formation of planar structure and that the surface modification of fillers improve the compatibility with polymers. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of new fillers in the steadily grouwing polymer composite industry. |
