Synthesis of Dendritic Poly(ethylene glycol) UsingAnionic Polymerization Method for Biomedical Applications |

Poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEG)s have been developed for anti-fouling materials that prevent absorption of non-specific proteins at the surface in biomedical and pharmaceutical areas. To improve anti-fouling efficiency, dendritic PEGs were synthesized by living anionic ring opening polymerization of ethylene oxide. Anionic polymerization is the most powerful method to obtain well defined structure. Dendritic PEGs were synthesized by divergent method and each generation was carried out in THF using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) catalyst. Allyl bromide was introduced to polymeric chain ends and dihydroxylation was carried out for branch point. Focal point and end groups were functionalized for biomedical application. All generations were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and GPC. |
