Real-time Monitoring of Dispersion Stability of Water-borne Polyurethane Dispersion. |

Eco-friendly material is an emerging issue in next generation chemical industry. Especially in coating technology, reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) during coating process is extremely important to secure worker’s safety. For the reason, during recent two decades, many high performance water-borne polyurethane dispersion (PUD) has been developed as an alternative of current hazardous solvent-borne coating materials. So far, majority of these research works in literature has mostly dealt with synthesis and mechanical properties of water-borne PUD but only a few studies evaluated long-term stability of dispersion in spite of its commercial importance. In this study, we systematically examined dispersion stability of polycarbonate based water-borne PUD by real-time monitoring using turbiscan technique for 15 days. The result indicated that molecular weight of soft segments in polyurethane greatly influenced long-term stability of water-borne PUD as well as mechanical properties. |
