Recently, fine dust has posed a serious threat to environment and public health. Although synthetic fine dust filters have been developed, they are not biocompatible and thus do not decay fast enough. Here, we propose an eco-friendly and biocompatible fine dust filter composed of Regenerated Cellulose, Silk, and poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA). The filter is made by lyophilization of Celluose/Silk/PVA hydrogel and can adsorb and remove fine dust including heavy metal ions such as Ag, Ni, Cu, Zn. Cellulose is dissolved in LiBr to make regenerated cellulose. The physical properties and porosity of the filter can be controlled by varying the ratio of Silk/PVA. The resulting filter offers superior performance to commercially available synthetic filters. It is cost-effective, environmentally friendly and biocompatible which can be widely applied in fine dust- related industries in the near future. |
